Rev Bunmi Thomas *former National Youth Secretary, CHERUBIM & SERAPHIM UNIFICATION CHURCH OF NIGERIA* calls on the C&S and other Christians to make known their position on state of the nation.
THE C&S CHURCH AND OTHER CHRISTIAN DENOMINATIONS NEEDS MAKE THEIR POSITION KNOWN ON STATE OF THE NATION NOW.
*HUMAN RIGHTS IS GIVEN BY GOD, THE CHURCH MUST DEFEND IT*
The church cannot be ignorant of its roles and callings in the present face of our emerging tension.
Nigeria is at a crossroad now, the nation has been halted by a nationwide protest by thousands of our youths calling for an end to misrule.
In the ensuring political tension, scores of our promising youths whom the president of Nigeria had earlier called ‘Lazy youths’ in the wake of his first term in office have brazen up and held firm their destiny with one voice calling for an end to MISRULE and some have fallen by the bullets of the police force and this is unacceptable by all standard to shoot at peaceful protesters.
The church of God as the maternal bowel of every person cannot be indifferent now seeing her flocks endangered, traumatised and dehumanised under the present system.
At a time like this the position of the church on state of the nation should be very clear and loud.
So I hereby call on the leadership of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, the Catholic, Baptist, Redeemed and other denominations to take a practical step as demanded by the social teachings of the gospel as directed in Romans 12:15 call we should *“Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.”*
The scripture beacons on the church now and today by the dictate of our faith *not to stand on the fence* at a time like this.
The church can only be meaningful and sincere to its calling if in honesty can be seen in the forefront of struggles for social justice.
Except the voice of the church its heard at a time like this, if not the church betrays its ecclesiastic roles on social gospel, for *human rights are given by God, the church must defend it*.
