Safety Group Marks UN World Day for Safety of Journalists With Webinar Against Media Assaults .

As part of events slated to mark this year’s UN World Day for Safety of Journalists on November 2, 2020; Media Centre for Safety Reporting (MCSR) is holding a Webinar on Safety Reporting in Nigeria, with the theme: ‘The Importance of Safety Reporting in Sustainable Development Plan’.

The President of the Safety Communication Centre, John Thompson disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Friday.

He said that the Web Conference which is “prelude to the National Safety Awards holding in Lagos on the 23rd of November, 2020 will be dedicated to Journalists who lost their lives, those injured and unmitigated attacks on media establishments”

Thompson also stated that “the award organizers will also use the opportunity to commence the announcement of National Safety Award winners in different categories, who will be honoured at the biggest event dedicated to the celebration of COVID-19 Safety Champions and Care Givers”.

He further lamented at the hazards Journalists are confronted with, which is daily turning them into endangered species in line of duty.

He however, promised that Safety Professionals and Communicators from Nigeria and USA have expressed readiness to share their professional experiences for safer communication and reporting in Nigeria.
