…Commissions “Apatira Free School Bus”
…To Inaugurate Numerous Youth Engagement Programs

In fulfilment of his promised transparency and sincerity in the disbursement of the “5Million Emergency Relief Fund” for victims of destruction and arson from hijacked #EndSARSProtest, The Executive Chairman of Itire-Ikate LCDA, Hon. (Dr.) Ahmed Olanrewaju Apatira adopted the report and recommendations of The ‘EndSARS Aftermath Victims Compensation Committee’ chaired by the vice chairman, Pastor Gbanga Oyebode to distribute cheques to all reported victims at the Council Secretariat, Airways, Surulere, Today, Thursday, 5th November, 2020.

The Vice Chairman, Pastor Gbenga Oyebode in his welcome address stated that the purpose of the program is to compensate the victims of the hijacked EndSARS Protest, whose shops, stores, workshop, and boutiques were looted by hoodlums.

While addressing the victims, the chairman said, “it is still unimaginable the wanton destruction of property, loss of life, assault, arson and vandalism resulted from the hijacked #EndSARSProtest by Hoodlums and as a government in the grassroot, we have to be responsive in assisting victims back to their feet”.

After intensive and sincere scrutiny of claims of affected victims by the committee, they were collated into categories; with highest recommended payout of N250,000 and lowest beneficiary got cheques of N50,000.

To address the fundamental issues underlining the agitation of the youths, The executive chairman has design numerous programs to engage representatives of Civil Society, Sociopolitical and youth organizations, which include partnership with artist and celebrity within the community to organize ‘Itire-Ikate Talent Hunt 2020’ to showcase our youth talents in comedy, music, cultural and contemporary dance performances, Also the Engagement of one hundred (100) youths from skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled categories with employment on the payroll of Itire-Ikate LCDA.

Surulere APC Apex Leader, Pa Adenekan commended the Chairman on the effort he has put in sustaining a better Itire-Ikate. He said the least they can do is to encouarge him; Hence, he urged the beneficiaries to make use of the cheques relevantly and effectively.

Recall that Dr. Apatira took delivery of the 60 Seaters Itire-Ikate “Free School Ride” Bus at the council secretariat in May, 2020. The bus which have not been in use due to the COVID-19 Pandemic break, was commissioned by the dignitaries at today’s event. Whereas, route and stops will be communicated soonest to start shuttling Itire-Ikate school pupils free of charge, as schools resume fully.

The Chairman further hinted that pupils and teachers furniture, school sandals, writing materials, sanitizing and protective equipment will be distributed to public schools students within our community to encourage them as schools resumed fully.
